ALTERED TULIP MIXED MEDIUM 24x24
Alcohol inks, self levelling gel, pen and a photo are the elements of this painting. Many parts went further than I had in mind. The accident of an enlarged photo started the creative process. UMMM what could I do? Well I could just finish the image and then outline it and then seal it with a glossy finish similar to the photo and viola. Painted on a art board and not needing a frame.
PATTERN MAKER ALCOHOL INK 14x11
Yupo paper lets the alcohol ink run wild because of its plastic like texture. The ink colours come to a resting point and is set once it dries .... it can't run any more. Pen and ink and a bit of bleach (to remove colour) create the design. Deciding when to stop always lingers in my mind. Deciding which way it should hang is also a challenge. Framed with a off white mat and black 1" frame under glass.
ROADS AND PATHS MIXED MEDIUM 16x13
Playing with oil pastels and using some ink to see where the images end up and later coming back to scratch and add more colour and design. The vibrancy of colour is striking and mixed with a bit of white to emphasis the design of paths or what do you see? The biggest question is which way to hang this abstract piece.
CRAZY POT ACRYLIC 16x20
I love painting flowers in a wide and crazy way. It is whimsical and abstract and I think it puts a tickle in your heart. Painted on a 1 1/2 board so it doesn't need a frame if you don't want one.
DANCING SKIES WATER-SOLUABLE OILS 18x24
These oils have a watercolour nature but remain vibrant like oils. Calgary's silhouette painted with one of our famous sunsets looking from the NW. A raised sweep of white medium echoes the way the waving clouds are set in the sky. Painted on a gallery 1.5" canvas which can be hung without a frame.
THE STORYTELLER OILS 20x24
On the pathways in Valley Ridge this tree stands with all its battle wounds. The idea sparked a series of paintings called "talking trees". If the trees could only talk and tell the story of their existence, of their life stages. The variation of colours from birds and disease etc tell a pack of stories.
GOLDEN HORIZON OILS 20x40
Living in the Prairies one can't help but fall in love with the wheat fields in blazing shades of yellow. The big sky compliments the scene with a palette of blues purples and pinks. Painted in oils really makes the colours sing. Framed with a hemlock 1/2" hemlock frame adding a rustic character.
LIFT OFF Mixed Medium 31x23
This started as solely a watercolour on 300 lb watercolour paper but morphed into more. Pen and ink and some chalk pastels were added . A friend took the photo of a flock of herons landing on a pond near Millarville in the springtime. I got permission from her to do my take on this spectacular arrival of these birds. Mounted on a 1" black floating frame and board.
MIXED MEDIUM 30x30
Creating the fall colours with an abstract feeling is how this painting evolved with
the trees entangling the foliage. Alcohol inks, watercolours and a bit of acrylic was used. Painted on a gallery 1.5 canvas frame which didn't need a frame. Sealed with a spray varnish to preserve the painting.
A trip heli-sking in the Rockies was captured from photos of a groups of skiers. I was asked to recreate the experience with mystic massive mountain and the very small skiers. Snow envelopes the rocky slopes and the blue sky frames the magical moment. Watercolour on canvas and sealed with cold wax to seal and preserve the painting. A series of giclees was reproduced for others in the group.
WATER SOLUABLE OILS 20x30
This painting was commissioned after client viewed some other of my landscapes. They choose a very subtle and soft palette almost like a pastel appearance.
OPENING OF LIFE ACRYLIC 36x36
This rather large canvas gave me an opportunity to do a enlarged tulip. I love tulips. The way the petals fall so randomly open and to the side. Using stunning shades of red create a striking effect upon the purple background. It doesn't need a frame because it is a 1.5 gallery canvas.
